This mixed media (acrylic and oil) painting is one of the largest in the "Moments of Light" collection. A mixture of gold, dark green and blue, yellow and white paints are mixed in a clever way to depict the elephant in the room, which is so obvious to everyone but we all choose to ignore it. Painted during the Covid-19 March to June 2020 lockdown, the subject of the pandemic was a delicate one to approach. Do you talk about the dire reality of what the daily figures mean to people? How do you explain a pandemic to a child? The elephant in the room could be any subject that you may want to avoid talking about, listen to Sinead's inspiration for this painting, bearing in mind that she wants you, the viewer, to put your own "spin" on it.
Sinead's work is based largely on an emotional response from her surroundings, her observation of nature, people and landscapes. She may re-interpret her experiences into real or imagined landscapes or into portraits of imaginary people.
This piece is part of the Moment of Lights exhibition (17th August 2020) at the Puffin Gallery, Ballycastle. We invite you to listen to Sinead's motivation and inspiration into creating this piece whilst Sinead would love you to share your own response to the painting.
