Peter Shaw - Irish Watercolour Artist
We at the Puffin Gallery are delighted to welcome Peter Shaw, an Irish watercolour artist who paints everyday life in Northern Ireland. His collection includes scenes from Irish farms, walks in Glenariff forest or along our beautiful North Coast, close to the Giant's Causeway.
Watercolour is a difficult medium to master, and Peter Shaw has achieved to do so by using transparent layers to portray the light in a beautiful subtle way.
Peter Shaw graduated from Stranmillis College in 1997, where he specialised in Art as his main subject. Awarded the Northern Bank prize for Art and Design, he has been painting and selling his work since graduation.
In his final year, as part of his degree Peter Shaw wrote a thesis entitled, ‘The Spirit of the Commonplace’.
"I think this is a good description of what my work is about. Like so many artists, light is the greatest guiding factor in what attracts me to a particular scene. I love the ordinary, the everyday little pockets of life; the corner of a field, a snowbank, the light on the water or a simple, white wall. It is what you yourself see in a particular subject, what you can bring to it, that brings it to life. The artist illuminates the everyday."
