Anna Donovan is a visual artist. Her mixed media practice includes a wide spectrum of disciplines, mainly ceramics. Encompassing sculpture, and wall mounted work, Anna plays with the human form both in terms of the physical body and the face, often toying with the phenomenon known as pareidolia. To realise her ideas Anna enjoys exploiting the expressive nature and potential of using different materials with clay, such as fabric, metal, found and autobiographical objects. This provides her with a way to manipulate textures and form through layers, exploring different techniques and experimentation. Anna credits her time working as a prop maker and scenic painter for many years as a huge influence on her artist practice.
Anna graduated with a BA Hons in 3D Design (Ceramics) what was then University of Wales Institute, Cardiff in 1995. After returning to Northern Ireland in 1999 she became the first dedicated Props Master and Scenic Painter appointed by the Lyric Theatre, Belfast. Since 2010 Anna has returned to her studio practice joining the artist community at Conway Mill in Belfast (known as Artists @ the Mill) and has exhibited widely across Northern Ireland.
